About us

About Sakoo Support Society

We are a nonprofit society founded in British Columbia in 2026. We exist to relieve poverty, advance education and promote health for individuals and families who are in poverty, of low income or otherwise in need.

Our mission

To help individuals and families in need meet their basic needs, continue their education and look after their health, with support that lasts.

Our purposes are set out in our constitution, filed with the BC Registry. We may pursue only those purposes, and all of our resources go to them.

Our story

Sakoo Support Society was founded by three people who wanted to give their support for families in need a lasting and accountable form. It was incorporated under the Societies Act (British Columbia) on June 25, 2026. The founders serve as its first directors, without pay.

We are in our first year. We are putting in place the governance, policies and financial controls our bylaws require, and choosing our first projects together with organizations that have a record of effective work.

What guides us

  • Lasting change

We look for support that changes a family’s prospects, not only its next few days.

  • Need first

We decide who to help by need, under written criteria, with safeguards against conflicts of interest.

  • Evidence

We support work that has been tested, and we ask what it achieved.

  • Dignity

We treat the people we serve with respect, and we protect their privacy.

  • Accountability

We keep careful records, report to our members every year and publish how we are governed.
