Why it matters
Poverty, poor health and lost schooling feed one another. A parent who cannot afford treatment loses work; a child who leaves school to earn stays poor. Each of our three areas of work addresses one link in that cycle.
Our work
Everything we do follows the three purposes in our constitution, and each is directed at people in need.
-
(a)
Basic needs
Food, clean water, clothing and shelter, and other essential help for families who cannot meet these needs alone.
-
(b)
Education
Scholarships, bursaries, tutoring, literacy and skills training, so that poverty does not cut a person’s education short.
-
(c)
Health and well-being
Medical treatment, medicines and counselling, mental health support included, delivered by qualified professionals.
How we work
We are a small society, and we put our effort where it goes furthest.
Support that lasts
We favour help that changes a family’s prospects, such as a child who stays in school or care that lets a parent work again.
Proven work
We support work that experienced organizations have tested, and we ask for reports on what it achieved.
Need first
Who we help is decided by need, under written rules set by our board.
Careful stewardship
Our directors are unpaid, conflicts of interest are declared, and larger payments need two signatures.
